If you’ve struggled with weight loss and nothing seems to work, it could be wired into your brain

Kim came to my services, referred by a personal trainer. She had been consistently working with a personal trainer for about a year, and in that time, she had been fairly consistent with working out, meeting with the personal trainer two times a week. Rather than losing weight, she was dismayed and frustrated to find that she had actually gained 20 lbs.

As an NLP Health Coach and Hypnotherapist, I am focused on helping clients find the original causes behind their problems, updating the brain’s programming, and automating new habits, thoughts and feelings that support you in creating the change you want. In first process of clearing the past negative history and original causes of weight gain, Kim remembered a time when she just about
two years old, at her baby brother’s funeral, and there was so much sadness.

She was aware that everyone in the scene was eating, as if they didn’t know what to do, so they occupied themselves with food. It was a first model of eating as a way to not cope and not face the loss. That began a habit or program for her in eating to cover up emotions.

To achieve lasting weight loss success, you must address what the brain is running automatically

We resolved the history by changing the event, rather than seeing the sadness, we imagined feeling a new awareness of the brother’s soul or spirit as a light in the room, even though people pass away, the connections of love and support continue. As a practitioner, it’s important to change the negatives of the past into positively coded thoughts and feelings.

Then, we checked into the awareness of beliefs – these are ideas that we pick up through life events, and if we internalize them as truth – they become self-fulfilling prophecies. One belief she identified was that in school, she learned the message, “If I make myself less attractive, then I am being kind to other women.” Of course, you don’t help others shine more by making yourself less, and this doesn’t make conscious sense, but our unconscious mind doesn’t care so much about logic. So, we re-wired these beliefs to “As I let my beauty shine, I am showing an example to other women to let their beauty shine too.” Then, with the core issues out of the way, we focused on the food habits and patterns.

From the patterns she mentioned about IBS Irritable Bowel Syndrome and the need for medications, that indicated to me a possible food allergy. I don’t diagnose allergies, but the awareness of your mind knows the answers. So, we did a checkin with the unconscious mind, and sure enough, wheat showed up as a sensitivity.

She committed to going off of gluten (protein found in wheat, rye, oats and barley). It was challenging at first because she needed to find other food alternatives. We wrote up a schedule of foods and meals, and she stuck with it for a couple of weeks. Over the 6 weeks of working together and going gluten free, the symptoms of IBS disappeared. She also became more aware of her food habits. We re-wired the old cravings for carbs – and she dropped 20 pounds.

Where she had been so frustrated about her weight before, she found some tools that made it easier and more natural, she changed some eating patterns, found relief from health issues, and stepped into her lighter freer self. It’s truly amazing what your mind and body can do to recover when given the right tools and the right support. In weight loss and health recovery, it’s essential to address the underlying issues, the mental and emotional patterns that have caused the problem in the first place. Once these are adjusted, the body can heal itself and naturally maintain a healthy weight and body. If you’ve struggled with weight loss, know what you should do, but you aren’t doing it, there is hope.

By working with your deeper levels of awareness, by addressing core issues that are responsible for old patterns and self sabotage – you can be free to move forward even more easily than ever before.
