“In fact, I’ve gained 10 lbs over the last 3 months,” she said.
It is frustrating when we are seemingly doing all the right things and still not getting the results we want. I can certainly relate at different times of my life.
But one of the reasons that people struggle so much with weight loss, is due to the hidden culprit of stress.
Stress can keep us in anxiety patterns, scattered thinking and also increase the cravings. This makes it even harder to find our balance with food and our bodies.
I call Stress the hidden factor in weight equation, and here’s how it works:
When we are stressed, the body physically responds by releasing stress hormones.
Hormones regulate everything in the body: hunger, feeling full, wake and sleep cycles, cravings and yes even whether the body is burning fat or storing it.
And here’s a key – hormones work opposite of each other, so if one is high, it causes others to be low.
So you can be doing all the right things, but if your body is running stress hormones, it actually causes cravings.
It tells your body to hold onto extra weight and over time can even create hormone imbalances which keep you struggling.
When the stress hormone cortisol spikes, it tells your brain to crave carbs and store fat. It’s a double whammy, and it can —make weight loss feel impossible.

With the client above, once we cleared the stress patterns and particularly an unresolved stress habit connected to food, her mind was able to relax into healthier inner patterns of calm with food, she was able to start recognizing her inner limits of foods and the I’m full signal and she started to lose the extra weight.
Because of the stress patterns, she hadn’t recognized that although she was eating healthy foods, she was overeating those foods causing her body to continue gaining weight even though she was exercising.
Once we cleared up the sabotaging patterns of inner stress, her food habits just compensated and she didn’t have to put in a lot of effort to “be good” with her health plan.
